The 3 Risks of Running a Business Without a Facebook Marketing Plan

By Amy Porterfield

Risk #1: Debilitating Yourself With Massive Overwhelm

If you’re anything like me, I would guess that you work really hard at what you do (and if we’re being really honest here, you likely spend way more time at your computer than you’d like to admit. Believe me, I can relate).

Most people on Facebook are working their tails off, trying to get more fans, more leads and ultimately more sales.

And the awful truth is |ac719e403f8ada73637410c971d95e3a|, miserably.

-Leaders who are the jack of all trade types do not manage most wildly successful businesses. The |57943b2d8f3894228d2c81fa1361ee7b| leaders and entrepreneurs tend to be highly skilled in a few specific areas, and then make sure they know just the essentials needed to be successful in other areas of their business.

-It’s time for you to stop trying to master Facebook, and instead |ab66aac8fcda1c0fc3ecefb0dea94167|. If you do this, a calm sense of confidence replaces what overwhelmed you.

If you are not actively growing your email list with your Facebook efforts, I can confidently say that you are leaving money on the table. When you start to look at Facebook as an investment, you begin to see how important it is to be able to serve and leverage every single fan. Without email as a part of the equation, you are only scraping the surface of your potential sales.

Risk #3: Wasting Hours of Your Precious Time

As an entrepreneur, the one thing you don’t have is time to waste.  Every minute counts, especially if your goal is to spend less time working and more time doing what you love.

A personalized Facebook marketing plan is your ticket to freedom – freedom from wasting time, energy and money on Facebook marketing without getting results. When you know what to do and when to do it (exactly what a well-designed Facebook marketing plan can do for you) you can feel confident that you are spending your time wisely – and this is a very, very good feeling!

Creating a plan that works for your unique business is what you need to finally start seeing real results on Facebook.

So let’s talk about this plan, shall we?

The 3 Phases of an Easy-to-Implement Facebook Marketing Plan

3 phases FB mktg

1.    The Attraction Phase

The #1 question people ask daily is “How do I attract more Facebook fans?” Although this question is important, most people are asking if for all the wrong reasons.

Yes, it may look good to have hundreds of thousands of Facebook fans on your Page, but if you don’t have a strategic plan to turn your fans into leads, you are wasting A LOT of time on Facebook.

If you begin to use strategies that will attract QUALITY fans that are genuinely interested in becoming your customer, you will see a massive shift in your Facebook success.  No longer will you have a Facebook page with a bunch of fans, but instead you will have a platform that is generating qualified LEADS into your business every single day.

Take Action: There are only a few proven strategies that currently work on Facebook today to attract the right kind of fan to your page. One of those strategies includes optimizing your Facebook page. Take a good look at your current Facebook page with fresh eyes and answer this:  If I came to your Facebook page TODAY without knowing anything about you or your business, would I quickly be able to how your business could benefit me?

Does your timeline cover photo quickly tell your audience how you can support them in just a sentence or two? Does your “About” box include a clickable link to your website? Have you named your page something easily searchable so your ideal audience can quickly find you on Facebook?  These things matter and are worth taking the time to get right!

2. The Promotion Phase

The Promotion phase is where I encourage my students to spend the majority of their time.  This phase consists of relationship building, engagement, list building, and making offers that will resonate with your ideal audience.  In this phase, you will want to get really clear on how you will support your fans, what you have to offer and how you will move your fans to become leads.

It consists of very specific strategies to move your fans to action, including creating a free giveaway campaign and using a Facebook ad strategy to move your fans to leads without breaking the bank. But before you use those strategies, you want to make sure your relationship with your fans is solid. You do that with consistent engagement.

Take Action: Since engagement is extremely important in this phase, in the next 24 hours, I want you to check out your last 10 Facebook posts. Ask yourself, “Do I sound like I am talking to a friend or do I sound a bit stuffy and corporate in my posts?” Also, ask yourself, “If I saw this post in my news feed, would I want to like, share, comment or click?”

If you don’t feel compelled to engage with your own post, I can guarantee your fans won’t either!

3. The Selling Phase

Facebook is best utilized as a lead generator, not a sales generator. I know this is a shift in how you might currently think of Facebook, but once you start to approach Facebook as a lead generator; your email list growth can skyrocket.

One thing I know FOR SURE is that the energy of your business is directly tied to your email list.  The day I started to use Facebook as a lead generator, EVERYTHING changed for me.  Not only was I able to build my authority and exposure, I was also seeing my profits increase daily.

I use email marketing as my main marketing vehicle to strengthen my relationship with my fans.  When you do this, you are no longer competing for your fans attention in the busy news feed, but instead you can communicate with them more intimately and with fewer distractions.  Email marketing is where I deepen my relationships and begin to sell my programs and services.

Before you can move into the selling phase with your Facebook efforts, you first want to get really clear on a giveaway strategy that will entice your fans to give you their name and email.  If you already have a giveaway you are using online, is it producing for you? How many leads a day are you generating?  If you are not satisfied with that number, it might be time to make some tweaks to optimize your strategy.

If you are completely new to the giveaway strategy concept, write a list of 5 giveaway options that you think will be valuable to your audience. Once you have this list, start asking your fans, friends and peers for feedback to help you decide on the best giveaway opportunity.

To wrap it all up, here’s what I want to make sure that you really understand about a Facebook Marketing Plan:

Once you’ve designed one for your own unique business, all the hard work is out-of-the-way.

From there, you can just tweak it and modify it as your business evolves and grows. Once you build the foundation for your plan, everything else starts to fall into place.

One of the best lessons I learned while working with Tony Robbins goes something like this: The key to getting the success you desire is to follow someone who has done what you want to do and learn from them. Model their strategies.

I built my entire online business on these strategies.
