Do emails and posts keep you interested. Or do your eyes glaze over reading posts and emails?

M-E-G-O.

Mine Eyes Glaze Over was a common classroom malady of mine. I’m a bottom-line person with the attention span of a gnat.

“Get to the point!”, cries out in my head.

Hemingway wrote short sentences and paragraphs of a couple of lines. And Earnest wrote at the 5th grade level. Many English professors said I wrote in choppy sentences. Some appreciated my writing.

My writing fans gave me better grades.

Those favoring what made laborious reading did not.

The Internet is the cause of poor reading and writing habits, some say. Communicate well and you’ll succeed online. No matter what your topic or goal.

The written word communicates ideas. The Internet connects people with content. We must remove barriers between us and our audience. That’s the quickest path to making money online.

Make More Sales With Long-Form Content

share your story - canstockphoto9867585 Thinking recently about long-form content caused  me to reflect on my blogging history.  I started long ago designing web sites with an expensive and complicted software package. What a headache! A couple of years ago I switched to WordPress and my life got much, much easier.

Using WP still requires solid posts delivering value to your readers. Too many messages come to my inbox that just sell. They don’t offer value. Many don’t make money online because they just sell, sell, sell. They send out emails that sell. Or are designed to sell a product or service. The point is most not making money online ignore lessons easily learned by watching successful Internet entrepreneurs.

Search Engine Strategies

seo canstockphoto5764453 Wonder why you don’t make more money online? Perhaps it has something to do with SEO. Your online earnings are determined by how easy it is to search and find your product/service offer.

Most likely your competitors pay attention to Search Engine Optimization. SEO is simply how to get more traffic directed to your offer by Google, Bing or some other search engine. More in this case means a higher ranking when a user searches using words associated with your product offer.

Search Basics

Let’s simplify SEO. The Internet is basically a method for connecting people with information. Search engines rapidly scan the Internet for information someone seeks.

They do this by sending bits of code called bots that look for what you seek. These bots crawl the web looking for data based on the keywords a person specifies in the search bar of a search engine.

Google is the #1 search engine in use. More than 1.1 billion people use Google each month. Compare that to Bing with 350 million average monthly users. Go to eBizMBA Rank for the list of the top 15 search engines in use today.

Online marketers do not have to know the mechanics of search engines. They just have to know how to use them to benefit a  business or campaign. We tend to make too much of technology making Internet what it is.  Some use that complexity to their advantage selling how-to programs.

A basic key to optimizing your site for search engines is selecting the best keywords associated with your offer. I use a great keyword tool Long Tail Pro. It is inexpensive, easy to learn how to use, and gives me a competitive advantage in some crowded product niches.

Reuse Your Content – For Higher Ranking & More Sales

A strength of the Internet is nothing is never ‘one and done’ – what you publish is available forever. What you put up may never go away. That’s true unless you remove your website or blog site where content resides. Even then ‘shares’ of your material may be on other sites – forever.

However, not everyone reads your blog posts when you put them up. Not everyone opens your email messages when you send them. How do we get more from our content? How can we get more email opens?

Here are some tips for getting maximum bang for your content creation effort.

Armando Roggio never fails to offer great online marketing tips. In a recent post he recommends starting a podcast using recycled material. This item is an excerpt from a recent post by Armando. He offers a tried and true tip for recycling your material.

Podcast 3 As the year starts anew, so can content marketing. For January 2016, consider creating a podcast from your blog posts.

Each episode of the podcast might be as simple as reading a post verbatim, perhaps, with an opening introduction and closing thank you.

According to a report on statistics website Statista, about 17 percent of American adults listen to podcasts. But it is estimated that only about three percent of marketers use podcasts to reach potential customers. This may mean that podcasting could represent an opportunity for some small businesses to engage potential customers in a less competitive environment.

A blog-driven podcast might have a secondary benefit, too. In 2016, website accessibility may garner some attention, as regulatory bodies, courts, and businesses define what it means to make a website accessible to folks with disabilities.
