It’s easy to get your sales people beyond product bullet points.  Here’s a simple method I used when Director of Marketing and Sales at a networking division of a major aerospace company.

When creating a telemarketing center with out call people very skilled in selling by phone we quickly learned, the sales prompt sheets did not cover information the customer wanted.  Many businesses fall prey to this trap.  That is telling the customer what we think is important rather than share what the customer wants to know.

You Are Going To Fail Unless . . .

Don’t let failure get you down.

Don’t get discouraged when starting affiliate marketing. Usually the first things you try will fail. They are a learning experience. Do not give up.

Thomas Edison famously failed 10,000 times trying to invent a working lightbulb. He looked at it this way, “I learned 10,000 ways how not to do it”.

Think of starting an affiliate site like learning a sport. You are going to be somewhat terrible at the beginning. Whether you try skiing, or golf, or skeet shooting, or playing the violin . . . you are not going to be Olympic quality at the beginning.

There are no naturals in anything. Some of us may learn faster or understand nuances easier. Some of us may progress more quickly than others. But we all have to learn.

Do You Have A Tribe?

Working online means many hours in isolation. We sit at our laptop or desktop working at our online business. Usually at home or a handy place like Starbucks. Getting work done requires concentration and blocking out chatter and other people.

We’re social animals by nature and staying in touch digitally isn’t 100% satisfying. Our digital friends are part of our tribe – or we’re part of a larger tribe together. But nothing beats face-to-face contact. Shared experiences bring great rewards.

We all benefit from association with the right people. Who are the right people? How do we meet them? How do they add dimension to our lives? What are the qualities of those you want to have in your circles?

How to Target High-Income Buyers With AdWords

 

The marketing days of “toss it against the wall & see if anything sticks” are long, long gone. I understood the value of targeting my audience several decades ago when handling marketing and promotion for an NBA team then the Harlem Globetrotters.

The NBA then was not the dominant pro sports force it is today. Sellout crowds were rare and season ticket sales even more rare. College basketball was often a bigger draw than the NBA. And where NBA teams shared a market with a minor league ice hockey team the skaters usually drew bigger crowds.

My success came when I understood how to target my NBA audience in a market with pro football, major league baseball and a minor league hockey team – all with Division 1 college teams in our drawing area.

What I learned in my two NBA seasons played well when hired by the Harlem Globetrotters to bring needed skills to that venerable enterprise. Our tools then were rudimentary, but the basics haven’t changed much over time.
