Why Side Hustles?
Today’s economy makes it difficult to keep up with inflation. In ordinary times if you make the same income as the prior year you are behind. The cost of living always rises.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! These days the economy puts simple cost-of-living items out of reach. Most of us cannot increase our paychecks. And it is not a good time to change jobs.
Along with rising costs for goods, many states are raising taxes on everything from income to gasoline. Some economists say the average family spends $11,000 or so annually compared to three years ago.
What is an average person to do?
A friend addressed the problem this way. He printed up a simple flyer saying he’d fix virtually any small appliance for $10. Then he walked the neighborhood placing the flyers in mailboxes. Within a week he had more business than he could handle. He repaired small appliances and earned quite a bit of side hustle money. And he enjoyed the work. His regular job is in the banking industry.
Analyze your skills.
Take time to think about your skills. No matter what your primary field you have skills in other areas. Some handymen and women are good writers. Or have some artistic talent. A cousin retired from government work. She’s delivered hundreds of babies working as a doula. In addition, she sells her artwork online.
My older son when in high school used his swimming and soccer talent to earn extra money. He marketed himself as a babysitter and if the family had a pool he included swimming lessons. He was part of our county’s jr. lifeguard program. And certified as an instructor and water safety expert.
He also marketed himself as a one-on-one soccer coach. He played high school soccer and attended a national coaching clinic, earning a C coaching license.
Our younger son earned money in high school tutoring math.
