How To Choose A Niche

Posted on November 5, 2021November 7, 2021

How did you choose your niche?

Proper niche selection is critical to business success. Many of us initially gravitate to the big three: relationships, money, weight loss.

They certainly are profitable. If you drill down using long keywords you may be more successful. By that, I mean focusing your niche on specific prospects.

Weight loss is very broad. Weight loss for people over 50 is better. Weight loss for women over 50 is an advantage. Weight loss for single women over 50 should create a solid following.

Using longer keywords focuses on a specific customer base. That helps marketing and list building.

What’s best?

That’s a hard question to answer. For some retailers, the best beer is the one that sells the most. For others, the best beer has the best profit margin.

The answer depends on your goal. Do you want to be the market leader? Or the price leader? The authority in your niche? Or do you simply want to throw your effort out there hoping to make a few side bucks?

Usually, I recommend choosing a niche you know. If you’re handy with tools and like to build things then sell into that niche. I suggest testing a digital product before selling it.

Be honest with your customers and sell only what you would purchase yourself. Build a relationship with your customers. Be trustworthy. Be a reliable source of information and product selection.

Niche evolution

Pretty much everything you learn today will be obsolete in a year. Today’s hot product may fade quickly. No matter how good the product is something new will come along.

What version of Windows are you using, if you are a PC person? Many of us are already migrating to Windows 11.

Do you know ATMs run on Windows XP? I seek out, buy, and resell old laptops running XP to a fellow reselling to niche markets. That’s how he paid his way through law school.

He still sells into that market. Old XP machines are his side hustle.

Pet products are a great niche

Overall pet industry sales were 5.7% higher in 2019 than in 2018, reaching a colossal $95.7 billion last year, according to the new report. Sales for 2020 are forecasted to increase by another 3.5%, landing at roughly $99 billion.

The online portion of those sales is difficult to determine. But eCommerce pet product sales increased online due to Covid-19. Here are some stats:

  • Pet product sales attributed to Covid19 increased 9.4%
  • 10% of Americans got a new pet due to Covid-19
  • 13% of pet owners recently purchased pet food online
  • 42% of Americans recently purchased pet toys online

Research your niche before you commit to action. There are many reliable data sources. You can view information like this on https://www.statista.com/.

Long-Tail Keywords

Earlier in this post, I gave examples of long-tail keywords. Many find this topic a mystery. I always suggest using Keyword Snatcher.

Click on this link and see what that product is about. I endorse Keyword Snatcher and use it daily.

Another product I recommend is Long Tail Pro. This product provides more detailed information along with competitive analysis.

I’ve used both for years with great success.

Why Focus on Keywords

  1. Keyword research gives you a better opportunity to make money online, and
  2. Using better keywords boosts SEO and search engine ranking, and
  3. Learn how to properly insert better keywords in your content, and
  4. Keywords target the right traffic to your site.

The Nutshell

You catch fish when you fish where the fish are.

You have a better chance of online marketing success with keyword knowledge. Many try and try without making any money online.

There are many reasons. One is being in the wrong niche. What’s important to you may not be important to enough buyers.

Keywords take you to the best fishing hole. They are the bait drawing prospects to your offer. Keywords inform search engines of your content. That boosts your SEO rank.

Use Keyword Snatcher or Long Tail Pro and boost sales.
