Some days it seems as if the world has gone completely bonkers.
We ask “What is going on?” And “Why is this happening to me?”
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!During times like this, we must have a winning attitude to overcome all obstacles. Be the Little Engine That Could. Believe in ourselves. Positive thoughts lead to positive actions. Positive actions lead to greater success.
I know it is hard dealing with what we call life. “That’s LIfe” is how many accept obstacles. Rather than solving life’s puzzles some just bury them.
I’m covering this topic because followers ask for help I cannot give. Their questions indicate they’re depressed. Or on the road to that unpleasant state. We succeed via our inspiration. There’s much that motivates us. There’s also much that weighs us down. “Suck it up”, or “Cowboy up” doesn’t always work when our mind is working against us.
Let’s recognize the problem and help ourselves get on a better path. That’s how we achieve success.
Yes, that’s life.
When you bury problems they become part of the baggage you carry around. The weight of that baggage stifles creativity. And positive action. Everyone has issues in their lives. These are pebbles in one’s path. No matter how great they appear.
They are easily dealt with. When you have the proper tools. And when you know how to use them.
If you are one of the millions of Americans affected by rising inflation, then you know that depression is just around the bend. It is easy to get lost in blaming one another for things beyond our control. Or just feeling that you aren’t good enough. Don’t get sucked into the black void known as depression. Consider the free methods you can use to fight it.
Never underestimate the power of the subconscious mind
The subconscious mind is a data bank for everything, which is not in your conscious mind. It stores your beliefs, your previous experience, your memories, your skills. Everything that you have seen, done, or thought about is also there. It is also your guidance system.
Many years ago I learned the power of our subconscious. Reading Dr. Maxwell Maltz’s book on psycho-cybernetics gave me tremendous insight. Our subconscious is where problems are solved. When you “sleep on it” the subconscious works to solve problems.
Those of us making money online have unique problems.
Our support group is usually online. People we’ve never met. Many of us don’t socialize face-to-face as often as we should. We’re left with our thoughts and online efforts as we earn a digital living.
Our business may suffer because our customers are dealing with rising costs and cutting back on spending. No matter what our niche we have to understand our customer’s situation and adjust. It is our responsibility to make a compelling offer.
Okay. We have a problem. What are we going to do about it? We can’t ignore it. We must deal with the issue.
The Covid-19 pandemic set us up for depression.
For two years we adapted to one government reg or another. It was never-ending. Conflicting information pulled us into “I don’t know what to believe land.” Some like me stopped all so-called news input. That way I avoided the onslaught of “do this, no do that.”
I accepted the way I felt as being in a bad mood. I wasn’t sleeping well and began overeating. And that was before getting hit with gas prices approaching $7 per gallon. And seeing security tags on supermarket beef. $20 for one small steak? And not the best quality?
When depression sets in we often don’t know it. We just don’t feel right. We’re not as happy as we were. We were told to exercise to feel better. But during C-19 gyms were closed. Parks were closed. I live near the ocean and the beach was closed. Are you kidding me?
Walking is a good exercise. Just walking. But we were told to wear a mask. Some advised layering two masks. How can you walk if you can’t breathe easily? I’m not a medical doctor. But a lot of mandates didn’t make sense. The “can’t fight city hall” C-19 period was insane.
Then came today’s inflation.
This is depression as described by a site I respect.
https://www.everydayhealth.com/
Depression is diagnosed when a person experiences five or more specific symptoms for more than two weeks, according to the American Psychiatric Association. Those symptoms include feelings of sadness and loss of pleasure in activities you once enjoyed, changes in appetite that cause weight loss or gain, sleeping too little or too much, feeling tired all the time, having difficulty concentrating and making decisions, and feeling angry and irritable. People with depression might also have feelings of worthlessness or guilt, unexplained physical pain like headaches or backaches, and frequent thoughts of death or suicide.
Wow!
Let’s delve a bit further into the subject. I’m told by trustworthy people guilt is what leads to depression in most people. But probably the easiest way to beat it is to stop assigning blame to yourself. Your current situation is more than likely not your fault. And blaming yourself will not help you in any way. Guilt can make you feel entirely inadequate. And it can worsen the symptoms of depression.
Telling others about the fact that you’re suffering from depression isn’t easy. However, telling those who are close to you about your depression can let them know that you need them to be there to lend you emotional support. Reach out to your loved ones. Don’t let your depression isolate you from everyone.
People who suffer from depression often experience impaired judgment. That can lead to many poor decisions. Postpone making any important and life-altering decisions until you have gotten a handle on your depression. If making a decision is a must, don’t make the process hasty, and certainly don’t be impulsive.
Stick to a daily routine
Sticking to a daily routine is important when you are battling the effects of depression. A daily routine helps you momentarily snap out of a rut that keeps you in bed or feeling horrified about your current condition.
Alcohol and drugs have been attributed to making depression symptoms worse. It can be tempted to reach for the bottle when you’re depressed. No matter how hard to refuse, don’t do it! Your brain chemistry is affected by drinking and drugs. They can destroy the relationships you have in your life.
People often notice that insomnia can make their depression worse. Ensure that you are getting enough sleep each night. However, in some cases, a lack of sleep has been shown to boost the mood of a person suffering from depression. It is still unclear in the medical world whether or not there is truly a link between insomnia and depression. But getting enough sleep can never hurt!
Fighting depression is not easy, especially when you think about the negative downturn of the economy. Instead of wondering where it all went wrong, or how your depression even started in the first place, try to work with your treatments by following the simple advice in this article. Depression affects millions of people each year, but how you cope is up to you.
Here’s My Advice
- Discuss your situation with your primary physician.
- Always keep your primary doctor up-to-date with your physical and mental condition.
- Learn how to cope with today’s nutsy world.
- Let go of the little things. The annoying things. You don’t have to take a stand on everything.
- Pay attention to what matters and ignore what you cannot change.
- Not everything matters. Or is of equal value. Thinking so is a major concern in our American society.
- Join a support group. In-person or online or via Zoom.
- Life is easier when you can talk out problems.
- Go to MeetUp.com and find a local interest group to join.
- If you cannot do what makes you happy think about it. Indulge your thoughts.
- Visioning is part of meditation. You’ve heard the term “go to your happy place.” It has deep meaning.
- Learn to meditate. Use this link to a very good beginner book.
- Get your copy of this book https://amzn.to/3DiB8Mc
- My dog-eared copy has helped me over the years.
- Develop a positive attitude. Online marketers are usually very positive people. The natural “can do” thinking of Internet marketers gets us through most bad days. If you’ve lost that get it back.
- Only you can make yourself happy. Others may disrupt a moment. Pay no attention to them. “Give in to the Force, Luke.”
- Exercise – walk, use surgical bands for muscle resistance, ride a bike, get off your duff and animate your body.
- Don’t sit at your desk endlessly. Get up and move around every 20 to 30 minutes.
