Sorry folks. I must apologize for not following my own advice.
Although I do all the right things securing online data something slipped off the bridge, so to say.
You’ll see a gap of six months in my posts on this site. That’s because the site was hacked – many times. Recovery was easy. Then the site got hacked again and all content taken.
I burned many bucks restoring the site – backups were corrupted – and finally got back on line. However, posts between February and August 2020 disappeared. I’m working to recover them.
When saying I do the right thing I mean backing up on a daily basis and copying to several external drives. My hosting service Bluehost was of great help. SiteLock was invaluable.
We were dueling with some very good hackers in two Asian countries. Hopefully now we’re on safe ground. Soon I’ll get a better blog design and make sure this never happens again.
We can do only so much to protect our assets. As Harry Houdini said, “Locks are to keep honest people out”. The depth of this attack was to get to several other sites linked to this one.
My advice is ensure full and complete backup of your sites. Use a VPN. Create more than one backup resource. Work with your host and ISP to ensure security across your network.
